Workflow
From key file to submitted batch
IndexNow has four moving parts. Each step below maps to a tool on this site, so you can go from an empty domain to a verified submission without writing a script.
- 1
Generate a key
Create an 8–128 character key made of letters, digits and dashes. Anything random and long enough works — the key is an ownership proof, not a secret credential.
IndexNow Key Generator - 2
Host the key file
Upload a plain-text file containing only the key to https://your-host/your-key.txt. Search engines fetch this file to confirm you control the host.
IndexNow Key Checker - 3
Prepare a single-host batch
IndexNow accepts one host per request and up to 10,000 URLs. Remove duplicates and split mixed-host lists before you submit.
IndexNow Batch Builder - 4
Submit only what changed
Notifying unchanged URLs wastes quota. Compare sitemaps to isolate new and updated pages, then submit that queue.

IndexNow response codes
What each status from the IndexNow endpoint means, and what to change before you retry.
| Status | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 200OK | URL submitted successfully. | Nothing to do. Indexing is neither guaranteed nor immediate — the engine still decides what to crawl and keep. |
| 202Accepted | URL received, key validation still pending. | Verify the key file is reachable. If validation later fails, the submission is discarded without another response. |
| 400Bad request | Invalid request format. | Check the request body: host, key and urlList must all be present and well-formed. |
| 403Forbidden | The key could not be validated. | The key file is missing, unreachable, or its content does not match the submitted key. Run the key checker. |
| 422Unprocessable Entity | URLs do not belong to the host, or the key does not match the protocol schema. | Every URL must be on the host you declared. Split mixed-host lists into separate requests. |
| 429Too Many Requests | Too many requests, treated as potential spam. | Slow down and submit only changed URLs. Repeatedly re-submitting a full sitemap triggers this. |
FAQ
IndexNow questions, answered
Does IndexNow guarantee my page gets indexed?
No. IndexNow tells participating engines that a URL changed, which removes the discovery delay. Whether the page is indexed still depends on the engine's own quality, duplication and crawl-budget checks.
Which search engines receive my submission?
One request to the Bing endpoint is shared with all IndexNow participants — currently Bing, Yandex, Seznam.cz, Naver and Yep. Google does not participate in IndexNow.
How many URLs can I send at once?
Up to 10,000 URLs in a single request, and all of them must be on the same host. Use the batch builder to split a mixed list.
Is my IndexNow key a secret?
No. The key file is public by design — search engines fetch it over plain HTTP to verify you control the host. Treat it as an ownership token, not a credential.
Can I use one key for several domains?
Yes, if you host the same key file on each domain. Every request still covers a single host, so submit each domain separately.
Where should the key file live?
The root — https://your-host/your-key.txt — authorises every URL on the host. A key file inside a subdirectory only authorises URLs under that directory.
Does submitnow store my key or my URLs?
No. The submission is forwarded to the IndexNow endpoint and nothing is persisted. The browser tools never send your input to a server at all.
How often should I submit?
Only when content actually changes. Re-submitting unchanged URLs consumes quota and can trigger a 429.
